Whether you need a break from the mundane or some time to unplug, Quinn Cabin is both a relaxing destination and a convenient starting point for day trips to some of Northern Michigan's most beautiful towns.
Located on beautiful Log Lake in Kalkaska, Quinn Cabin is just five to ten minutes from grocery stores, restaurants, farm markets, banks, a laundromat, and seasonal festivals like the Trout Festival and Winterfest. For a wider variety of dining and shopping, just 30 to 45 minutes away is Elk Rapids, Torch Lake, Shanty Creek and Schuss Mountain, or downtown Traverse City. Quinn Cabin is also less than 15 minutes from horse trails, three golf courses, and fly fishing on the Manistee River!
For a shorter stay, simply relax by the lake, cuddle up on the couch and enjoy the gorgeous lake view, or put on a record and dance with the family before dinnertime.
Quinn Cabin is a single story 806 square foot home on a private drive and on private, no-wake Log Lake in Kalkaska, Michigan. The property has plenty of room for parking in the front yard, including space for a small boat or personal watercraft's, travel trailers or snowmobiles. The right side of the front yard also has a new butterfly garden as of Spring 2021. The backyard has a wide staircase that leads down to the lake and solar lights guide the way down to the dock during Spring through Fall evenings. Guests can enjoy 100 feet of private lake frontage for swimming, or using the paddle boat or row boat provided. We are also excited to add two new kayaks in the spring of 2021 for even more adventures right out the back door. The wooded land directly across the road from Quinn Cabin is our undeveloped property so it's also available if you have little ones who love to explore.
Kalkaska gets a great deal of snow in the winter and Log Lake visitors will likely see snowmobiles and ice shanties on the frozen lake all winter long. The private road is plowed all season, as are the roads in town. The driveway will also be plowed for guests. We are also happy to preset the Nest smart thermostat to your desired comfort level. Just let us know prior to your stay what temperature to set it to for your arrival!
There are several options for sleeping arrangements. The master bedroom includes a king size bed, two bedside tables with lamps, and plenty of closet storage space for your clothing, jackets and bags. The second bedroom is part of the original center structure of the cabin, with exposed pine beams and duct work, loft-like pine walls that do not adjoin with the high ceiling, a full size bed and small closet. (This second bedroom is not as closed off and private as the master, but our guests find it comfortable and great for the early riser of the group.) The cabin also includes a queen sofa sleeper in the living room, a twin daybed on the sun porch (which is not climate controlled) that can convert to a queen or be used as two separate twin beds, and two pack 'n plays for babies or toddlers.
The newly updated kitchen includes a refrigerator, oven/stove, new microwave, new toaster oven, new Crock Pot, dual sink with dish rack and drain board, and a convenient coffee bar with a Keurig, drip coffee maker, french press, coffee mugs, coffee k-cups, sugar and powdered creamer. (Under the coffee bar you'll find games, puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, and a small DVD collection!) The kitchen also includes spices and condiments for guest use, as well as new dish towels, dishes, cookware and utensils. In addition, there is a large, practical island and plenty of cabinet space for your groceries. In warmer months, there is also a gas grill right outside the front door.
The bathroom has a small but new, well-lit tile shower with a dispenser full of body wash, shampoo and conditioner. It also has new flooring, new toilet, new vanity and sink, and new LED-lit mirror. There are plenty of bars and hooks for towels, and during warmer months there is also a clothing line in the front yard for beach towels and bathing suits. The bathroom linen closet is stocked with plush new bath towels, washcloths and bath mats, an iron, a hair dryer, clothes steamer, and other necessities.
WiFi is provided for your convenience, so if you are working from home these days, you can work here! The smart TV makes connecting to your favorite streaming networks easy. There is also a Blu-ray player, Crosley record player with built in speakers and Bluetooth capability, a small collection of vinyl records, a small DVD collection, and board games and puzzles for rainy days.
If you're like us and can't sit still, you will love how close you are to countless lakes, beach towns, state parks and preserves, and other Pure Michigan attractions that you can enjoy any time of year. The excellent location of Quinn Cabin, near the intersection of 131 and 72, is perfect for all of your Northern Michigan road trips and adventures. If you're looking for outdoor fun, bring your fishing license and gear and hit the lake right out back, any time of year. Hikers and skiers can look forward to Upper Manistee Headwaters: The Milock Family Preserve, Seven Bridges, Brinkman Bog Nature Preserve, or Hartwick Pines State Forest or head an hour west to Sleeping Bear Dunes for hiking or snowshoeing.
